The entire time we were in the Outer Banks, Matthew kept climbing out of the Pack-N-Play that we brought as his crib. The first night he was pretty cooperative and settled down quickly. The second night he just would NOT stay in there. I was about 30 seconds away from flipping it upside down and using it as a cage instead.
I was hoping against hope that he would stay in his crib once we got back home but it was not to be. Mike found him playing outside of his crib Sunday morning when he opened up Matthew’s bedroom door. He had climbed out all by himself.
Since we weren’t really planning on doing the big boy bed thing so soon and we didn’t know what we were going to do long term, we decided to take the railing off the crib and convert it to a toddler bed.
Checking it out before nap time:
Matthew was pretty excited about the whole thing and did really well at nap time.
In fact, he was still fast asleep when we got him up from his nap:
He’s such a snuggle bug after his nap:
That night, Matthew went down to bed fine but ended up falling out of his bed. He was pretty upset but went right back to sleep. We haven’t had any issues since then with him falling out of bed and 99% of the time, he goes to bed pretty easy. Every once and a while, he’ll give us trouble but he can’t get his door open so for the time being, he can’t escape.
After all the trouble we had with Ian’s transition to a toddler bed, I was absolutely shocked at how easy Matthew’s transition was! I can’t believe what a big boy he is!!!
