About 9 months ago, I decided I wanted to run the Turkey Trot held in Buffalo on Thanksgiving. All summer, I trained using the Couch 2 5K training program. After I ran the 5K in September, my training kind of went to hell and life interfered. By the time the Turkey Trot rolled around, I was not in shape to run and about 2 days before, I came down with a cold.
Despite the lack of training, a head cold and rainy weather, I still went out and walked the race with Jackie. It was a lot of fun!
Waiting for the race to start:
Posing at the start:
They cut off registration for the race when it hit 12,500 people but they estimated another 1,500-2,000 showed for the race.
The crowd was INSANE. Half the people were in silly costumes and there were a ton that were nearly naked. The people-watching was top notch! 🙂
Hanging out in the walkers section:
It took us more than 6 minutes to cross the starting line once the race started:
Running under bridges was fun. All the people would scream as we went under and it created a really cool echo.
Mile 1: DONE!
Walking under an overpass for the Scajaquada. The people on the overpass had a boom box playing music and were cheering on the racers:
Mile 2: DONE!
The sign at Canisius High School:
Mile 3: DONE!
Chippewa!
Mile 4: DONE!
City Hall:
Niagara Square:

Approaching the finish line:
Jackie at the finish:
Me: tired, soggy and ready to NOT.WALK.ANYMORE.
After that, we had about a half mile walk to the car. I wish I was exaggerating. It’s like Mike parked at the first spot he found. LOL
I was sooo glad to get home and take a hot shower after our hour and a half walk in the 35 degree rain! Once I got warmed up, it was time to finish making Thanksgiving dinner!

(Notice the camera out…I’m always ready for a photo op! LOL)
Have you lost weight? You're looking mighty skinnier in these shots. Hot mama!
