We took the boys to the drive-in to see Despicable Me 2 in July.
The last time we took them to the drive-in, we went to see Brave and it was kind of a nightmare. Matthew wouldn’t stop talking and pay attention to the movie. We had to leave during the start of the second feature because he was behaving so badly and we felt terrible driving through the lot while people were trying to watch the movie. And he hysterically sobbed all the way home which was all sorts of awesome. Needless to say, we were kind of holding our breath on our visit to the drive-in this year. All that worry was for naught! We had a great time.
We had read that the drive-in had been repeatedly selling out lots so we got there super early and got a front row spot. The only thing between us and the screen was a playground and a mini-golf course.
We picked up some food on our way to the drive-in, brought toys/video games, and warned the kids that the playground/golf was off limits. Thankfully they didn’t nag us for 2+ hours while we waited for the sun to set and the movie to start.
We did learn our lesson though….the front row is NOT the place to be. “Why?”, you ask?
This.

For two+ loooooooooong hours.
OMG.
The sunset was beautiful and soon the movie started.
The boys were up well past bed time and tired (and I may or may not have fallen asleep at the end of the movie) so we decided not to stick around for Monsters University. We never got a chance to go back to see any more movies this summer but I’m looking forward to having more opportunities next year!
