The first thing you should know, we are NOT Star Wars people. We don’t watch the movies. We don’t really know the characters. We don’t get it. The boys have never seen the movies but Matthew has always had a little interest in the Star Wars world. I think his interest mostly stems from the lightsabers/swordfighting thing.
When I saw a flyer at the library advertising about a free Star Wars Jedi Academy for kids 5 years and up, I decided to sign the boys up. I figured if it was free and something fun to do on a late fall (almost winter) afternoon.
We get there and are clearly out of our league. The room is overrun with kids that know more about the Star Wars universe than I know about, um, pretty much everything in my life. And the costumes. And the debating of good versus evil. And the comparing of of lightsabers. It was like mini-Comic Con. LOL
Ian was less enthused about the whole thing but seemed to have fun in the end. Matthew had a ball.
Holding hands, per instructions, with mini-Darth:
Full permission to swing his lightsaber around in pretend combat? Oh yes, he was having fun!

(Did you catch the “Are you getting this?” from Mike at the end of that video? LOL)
Number of adults in the room hit by erratically swinging lightsabers? ALL.

Each kid was brought up to display one special move to the rest of the crowd. LOL

After everyone got to show off their moves, they did sparring with partners. No pictures or videos were taken because I was too busy protecting myself. LOL
All the out-of-control lightsabers coming together for one last “Goooooooooooo!!!!! JEDIS!!!!!!!!!” Or something like that. LOL
They had fun and are certified Jedis according to some certificates we brought home. 🙂
