I was mentally planning Ian’s big boy bedroom for probably about a year before we actually started the project. Once I realized we were in danger of sending our child to Kindergarten while still sleeping in a toddler bed, I figured we really needed to get moving. Thankfully, his room came together pretty quickly and we were able to get it all pulled together before school started.
One of my bigger hang ups was whether to let the boys share the bigger bedroom while they were still young enough to cooperate. Since Ian didn’t want to leave his current/smaller room, we didn’t want to mess around with their current sleep habits (Matthew = good sleeper, Ian = not so much), AND we didn’t want to spend the money on two new beds/bedding sets, we just decided to leave the boys in their current rooms and just focus on redecorating Ian’s room.
Here’s what the room looked like before we started:
All of Ian’s stuff shoved into our bedroom so that we could paint:
Taping the walls and painting:
First coat on!
Second coat up!
Building the new bed:
Ian testing out the bed and being a little bit weird:
Okay…here’s what it looked like BEFORE:
And….AFTER!
The room doesn’t quite look as “yellow” as it does in the above picture. The paint color is Natural Linen and perfectly matches the linen pillow on Ian’s bed.
This is the view to the right of the doorway/at the foot of the bed:
- The bowling pin was Ian’s gift from his 5th birthday party – the one all of his friends signed.
- The trophy is the one Ian received this summer from t-ball.
- We put one of Ian’s t-ball pictures in that little baseball frame. That frame was one of the favors we gave out at Matthew’s 1st birthday party. 🙂
- The baseball is signed by Don Mattingly.
- I have no idea who signed the basketball. There are actually 2 autographs on there. They can’t be too important because Mike didn’t care that I was using the ball in Ian’s room. LOL
- The volleyball was one that my sister Rachel used in school back when she still played volleyball.
The wall color in the picture above is much closer to the real wall color.
Dresser right beside his closet:
- The item in the frame is a share of Walt Disney stock that Ian received for his baptism from Mike’s best friend.
- The green pennant is from Mike’s high school.
- The “SH” on the wall behind the globe came off my school jacket that I wore in middle school. This is the same school Ian and Matthew will attend, if we don’t move out of the district at some point.
- The navy/gold pennant behind the globe is from the college that Mike and I both graduated from.
Baseball-themed lamp and Ian’s new bedside table:
Pennants above his bed:
Nightlight:
The hand-made growth chart we received as a gift when Ian was born:
Red Sox pennant hanging on his door (with Mike’s blessing):
Brand new ceiling fan with theme-appropriate pulls:
So, there it is: Ian’s new room!
Ian really seems to like it and Matthew keeps asking when he is getting a big boy bed. Time to start researching options for Matthew’s room!!!
I’m really not sure why a) there are no Yankees memorabilia in the room, and b) there is a Boston pennant. I thought we were friends?!
I like the procedural spy missions I love the family scenes, I sure wish there were more game nights, dinners, parties, debriefing in the living room, watching tv, etc, etc, etc.
