Jill and I went to a watercolor painting class in August.  I’m not remotely artistic so I was a little worried my painting would be awful.  I think it came out okay and we had a ton of fun.  I think I want to do another one of these classes. 🙂

Blank(ish) canvas

I think, at this point, I was thinking “sweet, I haven’t screwed it up yet!” LOL

Jill and her painting-in-progress

About half way done and still not ruined. Woo!

I sent Mike this picture and he made some rude comment about upside down ice cream cones in the water. LOL

Mike’s response to this picture was “WOW!!! That looks awesome!”. Damn straight! 😉

Best girls night out EVER!

In early August, I had to take Matthew to urgent care due to an infected finger.  He really didn’t complain about it much so it kind of came from left field.  Turns out he put a staple in his finger at some point and he never told us about it because he thought he’d get in trouble.  Because he’s a six year old boy (translation: filthy at all times), the wound got infected.

Urgent care gave us a prescription for antibiotics which is always fun since Matthew is allergic to amoxicillin (translation: we had to go to 2 pharmacies to get the script filled).  They said it might take a little time to clear but it got worse the next day so I took him to his pediatrician.  I was hoping they’d drain the infection and was relieved when the doctor asked if I wanted them to do it.  Matthew was a little nervous but was a champ.  He didn’t flinch and actually giggled a bit because it felt so much better right away.

At urgent care

Waiting to see the pediatrician – praying they’ll drain that sucker

About 3-4 hours after being drained – so much better

After this happened, we had lots of talks about how Matthew needs to tell us when he gets hurt and that he needs to keep his hands cleaner.  Hopefully this never happens again.  Boys!!!!

ChalkFest was the first weekend in August.  We went down to check it out and were completely stunned.  The art and talent was unbelievable. It was so flipping hot that we didn’t stay too long but I definitely want to go back next year.   This year’s theme was Dr. Seuss themed as the benefactor was Theatre of Youth and their first show of the 2014-2015 season is “Seussical”.

This kid was probably 10-ish years old.  Can you believe his talent?!?!

They had a parking lot next to the street open with food trucks and local vendors.  They also had extra chalk on hand for kids to draw on any open spot on the ground.  🙂

The best part was the fact that they had Michael Macauley there and he did a huge 3D drawing.

Looking at his work through a camera. It was easier to “see” through a camera, for some reason.

The artist’s sketchbook

Final product. How cool is that?!?!?

I can’t wait to go next year.  Hopefully the weather is a little bit better. 🙂

During August, we went to Niagara Falls on a Friday night to see the Falls lit up and to check out the free fireworks display.  It was the first time the boys and Mike had ever been there in the dark.  I was surprised at how many people were there for the fireworks.  Next time, I think I’d like to see the fireworks from the Rainbow Bridge for a better perspective of the light show and the fireworks.

Matthew has been working on learning to ride a bike without truing wheels all summer long.  It took a lot of convincing to get him to TRY to learn but once he did, he picked it up fast.

Papaw helped him learn to brake and start on his own.  I think he’s got it!
